With the international community facing a convergence of global crises around peace, justice and human rights, the global SDG16+ community has an opportunity to re-shift its efforts and commitments to ensuring that SDG16+ is high on the agenda, and serves as a central focus of the upcoming Global SDGs Summit in September 2023, particularly with 2023 marking the “halfway point” of implementation of the 2030 Agenda. To this end, the TAP Network and its partners will look to mobilize around a broad and inclusive campaign around SDG16+, to help ensure that these critical issues are high on the agenda for governments and world leaders around these critical “moments” ahead.

This virtual and interactive event hosted by the TAP Network will serve as an important opportunity to bring together civil society partners working around SDG16+ to collectively strategize and discuss best approaches for mobilizing around a broad and inclusive “Halfway to 2030 Campaign for SDG16+” around key moments in 2023. In the context of severe backsliding of the implementation of SDG16+ and lack of civil society inclusion in policy and decision making throughout, the event will look to identify key approaches and ideas for mobilizing this SDG16+ Campaign in 2023.

The event will be hosted in a dynamic workshop style format, featuring breakout groups that will provide for detailed and pointed discussions amongst participants on a range of campaign-related topics. It will also provide an opportunity for learning, with each breakout group featuring national civil society leaders from the SDG16+ community, who will share their experiences in mobilizing for SDG16+ to-date. These discussions will explore gaps and challenges in national implementation, and how the TAP Network and partners can best mobilize and center its advocacy around its 2023 SDG16+ Campaign.

These breakout groups will look to unpack:

  1. 1)  Best practices for broad mobilization for SDG16+ at all levels

  2. 2)  Advocacy approaches and priorities for ensuring that SDG16+ is high on the agenda for the 2023 SDGs Summit and beyond

  3. 3)  Tactics and platforms needed for connecting civil society partners around SDG16+, to maximize sharing and learning

  4. 4)  Messaging and awareness-raising priorities for ensuring that the Halfway to 2030 Campaign speaks to wide-ranging audiences
