In 2016, International IDEA established the Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Initiative. This Initiative provides 173 nations with evidence-based, balanced analysis and data on the state and quality of democracy. Its goal is to advise policymakers to strengthen democracy and contribute to the public discourse on democracy. The Initiative has various workstreams, including regional partnership hubs, digitalization and democracy, and data visualization. The Democracy Tracker, the Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Indices, and the Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Reports are the main knowledge products:

Democracy Tracker, a qualitative dataset updated monthly that tracks the most significant democratic and human rights advancements in 173 countries.

 

Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Indices, an annual quantitative dataset that assesses the condition of democracy in 173 nations worldwide.

 

Global State of Democracy (GSoD) reports, including the annual global GSoD report and multiple In-Focus reports during the year.
