SDG 16 Monitoring

SDG 16 Monitoring

The follow-up and review process outlined in the 2030 Agenda includes the important step of Reporting (see Reporting), which often takes the form of visible events, e.g. the launch of a progress report. To make reporting possible, countries need to measure their progress continuously. This ongoing process is usually referred to as "monitoring".

SDG 16 monitoring generates a national accountability mechanism for governments and citizens to engage on peace, justice and inclusion issues, and to voice their opinions. SDG 16 monitoring can also lead to a superior evidence base for national decision making and, through benchmarking progress, create a record of reference for national planning, monitoring and evaluation.
