SDG 16 Monitoring

The follow-up and review process outlined in the 2030 Agenda includes the important step of Reporting (see HOW TO – Reporting) which often takes the form of visible events, e.g. the launch of a progress report. To make reporting possible, countries need to measure their progress continuously. This on-going process is usually referred to as Monitoring.

SDG 16 monitoring provides a national accountability mechanism for government and for citizens to engage on peace, justice and inclusion issues and voice their opinions.  SDG 16 monitoring can also offer a superior evidence base for national decision making, and through benchmarking progress, provides a record of reference for national planning, monitoring and evaluation.
