Annually, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21st September. As declared by the General Assembly, this day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

The theme for the International Day of Peace 2018 is 'The Right to Peace - The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70'. This theme celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This declaration was a milestone document in the history of human rights that worked to build foundations of freedom, justice and peace around the world. However, the Universal Declaration does not include a dedicated article on 'the right to peace'. Therefore, this year the theme of the International Day of Peace will be asking people to think about what 'the right to peace' means to them.
