Dear colleagues,
It is my pleasure to invite you to the online launch of the new Indicators for Democratic Parliaments.
The indicators provide a framework to help parliaments and partners to assess the capacity and performance of parliaments in all segments of their work. They are intended to support parliaments’ learning and development.
The Indicators have been developed through a joint initiative led by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). UNDP is one of the partner organisations, together with Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Directorio Legislativo Foundation, Inter Pares / International IDEA, National Democratic Institute (NDI), UN Women, and Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD).
The Indicators for democratic parliaments can be viewed, explored, and downloaded on the dedicated website. They are also available as a downloadable publication.
The launch event will present the purpose and content of the Indicators, as well as how they can be used to assess parliamentary capacity and performance. The virtual launch will take place on the following days:
Session 1: Tuesday, 21 November 2023, 10:00–11:30 CET (interpretation in English, French and Arabic)
Session 2: Wednesday, 22 November 2023, 16:00–17:30 CET (interpretation in English and Spanish)
Participants can join the session that is most suitable for them. Details of the event, including registration instructions, are available here.
I hope you will join the launch event and be interested in utilizing the Indicators to assess and improve parliamentary performance. UNDP, IPU, and partner organizations will gladly provide expert advice and support in the assessment process.
